About us!
Here at Happytown Farm we are a small-scale MOFGA certified organic vegetable, flower, egg and maple syrup producer, located and operating in Hancock County. We have a few employees, workshares, volunteers and an amazing community who support us and keep us going. We do wholesale, summer CSAs for vegetables and flowers, and local farmers markets. We will have a new farmstand as of 2025 and we hope this will help our local community feel included and welcome here at the farm. Our goal is to build a healthy biodiverse environment for everyone and everything to thrive in.
The main goals of us here at Happytown is to have a meaningful and impactful life and career, for us this means having a community that is included in our business, being healthy and strong enough to do whatever brings us happiness, having an awareness for our impact on the environment and local ecology, and being financially stable while doing what we love.

Where It All Started
Happytown was started 46 years ago by Paul and Karen Volkhausen who have been successfully running the farm selling meat, vegetables, flowers and eggs since then. With a lot of time, happiness and love it became the farm they have today. Over the years they built a house, a barn, 5 hoophouses, a greenhouse, and a lot of sheds in between. They raised a family and a lot of animals throughout their journey here. Paul ran the vegetable and animal side of the farm while Karen created the beautiful gardens and bouquets for their customers and friends. It has been organically certified with MOFGA since the beginning and the soil has been well taken care of. With homemade compost the quality shines through! As of 2025, they will be retired from the business and are now letting me (Angelica!) take charge and keep their legacy going. It has been a journey to get here, and this is a whole new beginning for all of us.
